Gardaí  appealed for witnesses today in the wake of a shooting last night in Tallaght.

A 23-year-old suffered injuries to his chest and arm after he was shot a number of times at his home at about 8pm yesterday in the Allenton estate in Tallaght, Co Dublin.

It is understood that the man opened the door of his house to a gunman who shot him a number of times.

The man was taken by ambulance to Tallaght hospital, where his condition was described as stable.

The scene of the shooting was preserved for technical examination.
