A Castleknock man in his 40s was still in Blanchardstown hospital yesterday after two men attacked and injured him with a knife, took his car and stole a small amount of cash.

The man had stopped his car at around 9.30 p.m. on Sunday on River Road, just west of Blanchardstown village, to have a look at a new health and fitness club which is about to open there. When he turned back, he was confronted by two young men, one of them carrying a knife, who demanded money.

The man with the knife then attacked him, cutting him on the neck, chest and arm. Gardai were alerted by a 999 call, went to the scene and took him to Blanchardstown Hospital.

His car was later found near Finglas village. The man's injuries were described by gardai as "not life threatening".
