A 24-year-old man has appeared in court in Cork in connection with the fatal stabbing of 31-year-old father of one in the city over the Bank Holiday weekend.
Tim Kelleher was brought before Cork District Court this morning and charged in connection with a fatal assault on Mark Hanlon from Lotamore in Mayfield.
Mr Kelleher was charged with assault causing serious harm to Mr Hanlon at Infirmary Road, Cork on May 6th contrary to Section 4 of the Non Fatal Offences Against the Person Act.
Insp Finbarr O'Sullivan said gardaí were consenting to bail once certain conditions including provision of an independent surety were met by Mr Kelleher.
Judge Leo Malone remanded Mr Kelleher in custody with consent to on his own bond of €200 and independent surety of €5,000 to appear again at Cork District Court on Thursday.
He made it a condition of Mr Kelleher's bail that he surrender his passport and that he reside at Apartment 28, Block A, South Terrace Apartments Cork.
He also made it a condition of bail that Mr Kelleher sign on each Monday, Wednesday and Friday at Anglesea St Garda Station between 9am and 9pm.
Defence solicitor Emmet Boyle said that Mr Kelleher was unemployed and in receipt of social welfare and he applied for free legal aid which was granted by Judge Malone.
Mark Hanlon was found at Infirmary Road, Cork, suffering from a stab wound.
