A 33 year old unemployed Dublin man appeared in court last night charged in connection with causing last week's bomb scare in Dublin city centre.

Mr Paul Carwood, of no fixed abode, was arrested yesterday at the Labour Exchange in Thomas Street.

He appeared at the Dublin District Court charged under Section 12 of the 1976 Criminal Law Act with "knowingly making a false report tending to give rise to apprehension for the safety of people or property" on October 11th.

Det Garda P. J. Conway said that he was arrested on a bench warrant for his failure to appear in court on another matter. When charged in connection with the bomb hoax, he replied: "I will say what I have to say in court."

Mr Carwood told the court that he had lived in hostels in Dublin since leaving a flat in February, most usually the Iveagh Hostel. He said he had failed to appear in court on another charge on October 10th, as he had been admitted to hospital after being hit by a bus.

Judge John O'Neill remanded him to appear at Dublin District Court today at 10.30 a.m. and he was awarded bail on an independent surity of £100.
