Man hospitalised after Belfast stabbing

A man was taken to hospital following a stabbing in north Belfast early this morning.

A man was taken to hospital following a stabbing in north Belfast early this morning.

The victim was walking with a friend at 1:20am on Ladbrook Drive in the Old Park area of the city when he was approach by another man.

A conversation took place and the man was stabbed from behind in the abdomen.

A police spokeswoman said his injuries although serious are not thought to be life-threatening.

His attacker is described as being 163cm (5 ft 4in) in height with black hair. He was wearing black jeans and a jumper.

Separately, a man suffered head and hand injuries when he was assaulted by a group of men on New Year's Day, police said today.

The incident at Lisnagelvin retail park, Derry, happened at around 3.15am and two men were arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

Detectives appealed for anybody with information to contact them.
