The man arrested this afternoon in the Blanchardstown area of Dublin is being held at Blanchardstown Garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

Gardaí have renewed their appeal for assistance from the public in obtaining more information about the dead man.

Detectives are working on the theory the remains are those of a man in his 20s from west Dublin who went missing last week.

The victim, whose family are not Irish but who was brought up here, is believed to have been stabbed to death during an altercation last week.

After learning he was missing, gardaí received information suggesting he had been stabbed and his remains dumped.

A Garda team was assembled and has been searching waste ground around the west Dublin suburb in recent days before the decomposed body was found yesterday. The area was sealed off and the body remained at the scene overnight.
