Man held after Co Wicklow shooting

Gardaí in Co Wicklow have arrested a man following a shooting this afternoon.

Gardaí in Co Wicklow have arrested a man following a shooting this afternoon.

The incident took place on a farm at Tree Wells, outside the village of Aughrim  at about 4.30pm.

The injured man who is in his 50s, was shot once in the upper body with a shotgun.

He is said to be in a critical condition in St Vincent's hospital in Dublin.

A 22-year-old man was arrested at the scene. He is being held at Arklow Garda station under the provisions of Section 30 of the Offences Against The State Act. He can be held for up 72 hours before being charged or released.

Gardaí believe the attack is linked to a personal matter and say it is not linked in any way to gangland crime.
