A MAN whose neighbour annoyed him by shouting and roaring at night received severe stab wounds after he was attacked with a kitchen knife, Cork Circuit Court was told yesterday.

Seamus Fitzgerald, Comeragh Park, The Glen, Cork, pleaded guilty to maliciously wounding Mr John Condon on October 31st last at Comeragh Park.

He was sentenced to four years penal servitude by Judge A.J. Murphy, who said no amount of provocation justified the injuries received by Mr Condon, who was probably lucky to be alive.

Sgt Barry McPolland said Mr Condon was out for the evening and on returning home tried to attract the attention of his girlfriend, who lived nearby.

Fitzgerald came out of his house and there was a fight between them, with Mr Condon getting the better of the row.

Shortly afterwards, Fitzgerald attacked Mr Condon with a kitchen knife. He was wounded on the face, on his neck close to the jugular vein, on the chest and head, and required hospital treatment.

Fitzgerald said he and Mr Condon were friends again and he had been invited to his wedding, but he did not want to go because of the assault.
