Gardaí have released a man arrested in Dublin yesterday morning in connection with their investigation into the January shooting of Dublin criminal Martin Foley.

Gardaí arrested the 24 year-old man in Ranelagh shortly before 9 am yesterday morning. He was detained at Crumlin Garda Station under Section 30 Offences Against the State Act.

The man was released at around 8am today.

A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Mr Foley (55), known as "the Viper", was shot as he drove his car out of a gym in Kimmage, south Dublin, in January.

Mr Foley, who has survived four previous shooting attempts on his life, has more than 40 convictions, some for assault, robbery and possession of threatening weapons.

He survived the attack and reportedly called out the name of his attacker at the scene.
