A quiet village in Co Fermanagh was in shock today after a man was stabbed to death during a disturbance at a bungalow.
Ciaran Woods, 36, was murdered in the Edenmore area of Tempo in the early hours. It is understood the victim was from the nearby town of Lisnaskea.
A 37-year-old woman was also stabbed in the incident. She was taken to hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
A 35-year-old man was later arrested on suspicion of murder after being stopped by police on the Tattymoyle Road near Tempo.
Detectives carried out a full search of the bungalow in Edenmore Road after being called to the address at 4.20am.
Fermanagh and South Tyrone MP Michelle Gildernew said she was deeply saddened.
"The news comes as a great shock to all of us and my thoughts at this time are with the injured woman who remains in hospital and the family of the deceased man,” said the Sinn Féin representative.
“Never, in all my years as an elected representative, did I ever expect something like this to happen in Tempo and I know that the community as a whole are shocked by this incident.”
Ulster Unionist Assembly member Tom Elliott also expressed his shock.
“This is a very sad turn of events for this small community,” he said.
“There is a huge sense of shock here as news breaks of the tragic circumstances. It is a close-knit community and everyone is trying to come to terms with news of this murder.”
SDLP’s Tommy Gallagher passed on his condolences. “I would express my sympathy with the dead man‘s family and friends,” he said.
“This is a shocking incident and has left the people of the Tempo area completely shocked and saddened.”
