A MAN in his mid 20s is due in court in Belfast today, charged with the murder of the INLA leader, Mr Gino Gallagher. A number of other people are still being questioned about the killing.
Meanwhile, Mr John Fennell a founder member of the INLA who was beaten to death in a feud believed to be linked to the killing, was given a paramilitary style funeral in Belfast.
The 25 year old man is to appear at Belfast Magistrates Court today. Mr Gallagher (32) was shot as he queued inside a west Belfast dole office at the end of January.
The suspect and others were arrested in police swoops in Belfast last Wednesday morning. They were brought to Castlereagh Holding Centre in Belfast for questioning. Two people have been released without charge and others are still in custody.
It was also reported yesterday that the gun used to kill Mr Gallagher was stolen from a Royal Irish Regiment soldier in 1994.
The RUC and gardai are seeking to establish whether the killing of Mr Fennell on Tuesday morning last in Bundoran, Co Donegal is linked to Mr Gallagher's killing.
A man who was being questioned at Ballyshannon Garda Station in Co Donegal in connection with Mr Fennell's killing was released without charge at 8 p.m.
Mr Fennell (40) was buried on Saturday. Men and women wearing black paramilitary garb flanked his coffin as it was brought to the Holy Cross Church for Requiem Mass.
