Gardai are investigating a fatal road traffic incident in Co Waterford last night.

A man was killed when his car hit a tree in New Rath near Ferry Bank  at 11pm last night.

Gardaí said the man, believed to be in his mid-30s, died at the scene. His body was taken to Waterford General Hospital following the crash.

No one else was injured in the collision.

The Rockshire road has been closed for a technical examination.

Meanwhile, gardaí have named the seven-month-old girl who died following a traffic collision in Co Roscommon on Friday as Hannah Louise MacNevin Best from Ballinagare in Roscommon.

The child's mother was injured in the single vehicle accident, which happened at about 11.30pm, when the car in which they were travelling left the road and hit a tree at Ballinphuill, Castlerea, Co Roscommon. The baby was taken to Temple Street hospital suffering from serious injuries but died on Sunday night.
