A man appeared before Limerick District Court yesterday charged with the murder of a woman in a city centre nightclub

A man appeared before Limerick District Court yesterday charged with the murder of a woman in a city centre nightclub. Mr Mark Cronin (29), of Hyde Avenue, Ballinacurra, Weston, was charged before Judge William Early with the murder of Georgina O'Donnell (20), of Richmond Park, Corbally, at the Henry Cecil Bar and Restaurant nightclub, Lower Cecil Street, on or about May 3rd, contrary to common law.

He was also charged with having a handgun in his possession with intent to endanger life on May 2nd; with having in his possession a firearm, a handgun, for an unlawful purpose at the same place; and that, at Crecora Avenue, Prospect, he assaulted Angela Collins (Biddy), causing her harm on November 2nd, 1997.

Det Sgt Declan Mulcahy, Henry Street, gave evidence of arresting and charging the defendant at the station at 12.38 a.m. on May 27th. After caution the defendant said he was "not guilty" to all the charges. He was remanded in custody for one week until June 3rd.
