An 18-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the murder of 40-year-old Mark Moloney who was killed in Limerick last weekend.

Stephen O'Sullivan of Galtee Road, O'Malley Park, Limerick, made a brief appearance amid tight security before a special sitting of Limerick District Court this evening.

He was charged with the murder of Mark Moloney on Claughaun Road, Garryowen on Saturday afternoon.

Mr Moloney suffered multiple gun shot wounds.

Mr O'Sullivan was also charged with recklessly discharging a firearm in a house in the city earlier on Saturday.

When charged with the murder, the court heard that Mr O'Sullivan said: "not guilty, I didn't intend to kill him".

Mr O'Sullivan was remanded in custody until 10.30 next Tuesday and was assigned free legal aid.
