A 54-year-old man appeared in court yesterday charged with sexual offences against woman workers at an employment centre for mentally handicapped in Galway.
The man, who was employed at the centre and was arrested yesterday morning, is alleged to have committed the offences between February 1992, and September 1996.
Some 15 of the charges allege he had sexual intercourse with mentally handicapped women. He also faces charges of attempting to have sexual intercourse and one charge of sexual assault.
Insp Pat Gannon, prosecuting, told the court he had no objection to bail being granted and the defendant was released on his own surety to appear before Galway District Court on July 23rd.
