A man (23) appeared before Limerick District Court today charged with the murder of a mother of two whose body was found in a Limerick hotel room last weekend.

Jerry McGrath from Ballywalter, Knockavilla, Co Tipperary was charged with the murder of Sylvia Roche-Kelly (33) at the Clarion Hotel last Saturday.

Ms Roche-Kelly's body was found in a bath by members of staff at the hotel. Although a postmortem proved inconclusive, gardaí believe Ms Roche-Kelly, who was originally from Limerick, died after being assaulted.

Judge Tom O'Donnell said the question of bail did not arise in his court because of the charge and remanded the accused man in custody until December 19th next.
