The man attacked on Dublin's Grafton Street early on Sunday morning is in a critical but stable condition in St James's Hospital this afternoon.

The condition of librarian Mr Barry Duggan (30), from Drumcliffe, Co Sligo, has not changed since he was admitted to hospital following a vicious assault at the hands of a group of men.

Gardaí are continuing to prepare a file for the DPP after interviewing three men at Pearse Street Garda station yesterday.

The three - believed to be two brothers from Stillorgan and a third man from Swords in north Co Dublin - submitted statements in the presence of their solicitors after voluntarily attending the station.

The file will be sent to the DPP in the coming days.

The attack, which has drawn widespread condemnation, happened when Mr Duggan, who lives in Rathmines, fell near a group of men on Grafton Street at 2 a.m. on Sunday.

He was dragged into the nearby Lemon Street where he was kicked and beaten unconscious. Part of the assault was captured on CCTV from a shop.

Calls have been made for the deployment of more gardaí on Dublin streets at the weekend, following the assault.
