A man who was sexually assaulted as a teenager by his uncle and another man has been given £50,000 compensation after his uncle sold property he owned in Dublin and Sligo.
Judge Joseph Mathews heard the second defendant was interested in the mythical world and black religious rituals including the slaughter of animals. He told gardai he had been homosexual all his life and felt like a woman trapped in a man's body.
The defendants were each given two-year suspended sentences at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court by Judge Mathews, who made an order prohibiting publication of their names to protect their victim's identity.
The victim's uncle pleaded guilty to two charges of sexually assaulting him on dates from January 18th, 1991, to December 31st, 1992.
The second defendant pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting him on a date in 1993, and to one charge of gross indecency in 1994.
Garda Shay Woods told Mr George Birmingham, prosecuting, that the sexual activity between the victim and his uncle consisted generally of mutual masturbation. The matter came to light in statements made following a burglary at the uncle's house.
Neither man had any previous criminal convictions.
