A man has been arrested over the death of a woman in Co Waterford

A man has been arrested over the death of a woman in Co Waterford. The man in his 40s was arrested after the woman was found dead Ardmore, Co Waterford early this morning.

He is being held under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State act in Dungarvan Garda station. A gun was also recovered during the arrest operation.

The body of the woman, Joan Power, a mother of three in her mid-40s was discovered at her home at Kinsale Beg near Ardmore at about 4 a.m. today. It is believed she was stabbed.

Gardai are also investigating the death of Mossie Curran, also in his mid 40s, whose body was discovered outside a bar which he owned four miles from where Ms Power's body was found.

It appears he may have died of gunshot wounds, it has been reported.

A Garda spokesman said the two incidents "may be connected".

It was understood Ms Power worked for Mr Curran.

The garda spokesman said State Pathologists would carry out post mortem's later today and a full Garda technical team was examining both scenes.
