Gardaí and customs officers were tonight investigating if €10,000 worth of cigarettes seized were counterfeit.
A car driven by a man was stopped and searched by gardai on routine patrol at Crookedwood, Mullingar, Co Westmeath, at 12.30pm.
A quantity of cigarettes, valued at €10,000, was discovered.
The driver, a man in his 40s who was the only occupant of the car, was questioned in relation to the incident.

A garda spokesman said investigations were being carried out to establish if the cigarettes were counterfeit.
The stash has been handed over to customs officials for examination.
