A man arrested after gardaí intercepted an alleged transaction involving firearms in the Dublin mountains last Monday has been remanded in custody with consent to bail at Tallaght Court.

Mr Dean Furlong (33), Tyrconnell Road, Inchicore, Dublin, is charged with possession of a .22 rifle, a Beretta shotgun and a Monte Carlo shotgun in suspicious circumstances contrary to section 27(1) of the Firearms Act at the Pine Forest, Ballybrack Road, Glencullen, Co Dublin, on May 19th.

Det Garda Ronan Waldron asked for Mr Furlong to be remanded in custody for a week unless he could come up with substantial bail and a surety. Mr Kerida Naidoo, for Furlong, said his client would be able to raise €5,000 for bail.

Judge McDonnell remanded Mr Furlong in custody to Cloverhill District Court on May 29th with consent to his own bail of €5,000 and one surety of €10,000 or two sureties of €5,000 each and one cash lodgement of €5,000, on condition that he reside at his Inchicore address, that he sign on daily at Kilmainham Garda station and that he surrender his passport.
