A man has been arrested in the North and two women taken to safety following a police inquiry into alleged sex trafficking.

A man has been arrested in the North and two women taken to safety following a police inquiry into alleged sex trafficking.

The PSNI said detectives from the organised crime branch carried out an operation in the greater Belfast area this afternoon in relation to human trafficking for the purpose of sexual exploitation.

A man, aged 37, was arrested and is helping police with their inquiries.

Two 21-year-old women were rescued during the operation and are now receiving specialist support, a PSNI spokeswoman said.
