Man arrested in connection with Smithfield murder

A man was arrested this morning in connection with a murder in the Smithfield area of Dublin last Thursday.

A man was arrested this morning in connection with a murder in the Smithfield area of Dublin last Thursday.

He was detained in Dublin City Centre and is being held at the Bridewell Garda Station under Section 4 Criminal Justice Act.

Gardaí began a murder investigation last Friday following the results of a post mortem on the body of Mr Paul Farrell, who was found in a derelict building on Coke Lane, near Smithfield, on Thursday evening.

Mr Farrell (46), of Buckingham Street, Dublin 1, died from multiple head injuries, a post-mortem carried out by the deputy state pathologist, Dr Marie Cassidy, showed.
