Gardai investigating a drive-by shooting in the village of Ballyneety in Co Limerick today have arrested a man in his twenties.
The man was arrested in the Ballinacurra/Weston estate at 4pm after a number of shots were fired at a man in a van from another car as he drove along the R512, the Limerick to Bruff Road.
The attack occurred at around 12.10pm. Two people are believed to have been in the van but no one was injured.
The arrested man is being detained at Roxboro Road Garda Station under section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act. Gardai are investigating whether this latest shooting is part of a feud between rival crime gangs in Limerick city.
On Sunday night 21-year-old Frankie Ryan was murdered as he sat in a car with another man in the Moyross area when a gunman pulled up on a motorcycle and fired several shots.
A man in his 20s arrested yesterday in connection with the shooting is still being questioned in Mayorstone Garda Station under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.
Gardai at Roxboro Road Garda Station are investigating and the main street of Ballyneety has been sealed off and will be technically examined.
Officers are appealing to anyone who was in the area between noon and 12.30pm and who may have witnessed the shooting to contact them at Roxboro Road Garda Station on 061 214347.
