A MAN and a woman died in separate crashes in Co Kerry and Co Carlow early yesterday.
A 19-year-old Co Limerick man died in a single vehicle crash when the car he was driving mounted a ditch and then struck a boundary wall on the opposite side of a road in Co Kerry.
The incident occurred at Doonard Upper on the main Tarbert to Ballylongford road, a kilometre from Tarbert village at about 5.40 am. He was alone in the vehicle.
The man is from Glin in Co Limerick, just over the Kerry border. He was not being named until all next of kin were contacted.
Gardaí in Listowel are investigating and have asked witnesses to contact them on 068 50820 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
The young man’s death brings to 12 the number who have died on Kerry roads so far this year.
Meanwhile, a 28-year-old dental nurse died after her car collided with another vehicle in freezing conditions yesterday morning.
Mary Peare, of Bellfield Road, Enniscorthy, Co Wexford, died after her car struck a 4x4 on the N80 at Kilbride, Ballon, Co Carlow, shortly after 8am.
