A man was in a comfortable condition in Cork University Hospital last night after being airlifted off the Swansea-Cork Ferries vessel.
The man became ill around 5 a.m. yesterday and the ship - which was sailing from Swansea to Cork - radioed for assistance. An Air Sea Rescue helicopter was dispatched from Shannon and picked up a medical team at Cork Airport. The rescue team airlifted the man from the ship, which was moored off Ballycotton outside Cork Harbour, and took him to Cork University Hospital.
