A Co Wexford man has been remanded in custody for sentencing by the Central Criminal Court after he pleaded guilty to a serious sexual assault on a young woman two years ago.
Brendan Clancy (34), unemployed, of Greenlake, Murrintown, pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual assault at Duncannon, Co Wexford, on July 14th, 1997. His guilty plea to the lesser charge came just before the scheduled start of his trial for the rape of his victim.
Mr Michael Counihan SC, defending, requested the preparation of probation and psychiatric reports on Clancy.
Mr Justice Carney remanded Clancy in custody for sentence on May 20th and directed the preparation of reports, including a victim impact report, for that hearing.
