Mr Gerard Graham (33), of John Street, Dingle, Co Kerry, was charged at a special court sitting yesterday with the murder of Ms Charlene McAuliffe (19), of Kilnap Place, Farranree, Cork, on October 2nd last.
The brief hearing before Judge Humphrey Kelleher took place at Kenmare District Court. Sgt Mossie O'Donnell gave evidence of arresting Mr Graham at Bridge Street, Dingle, at 5.14 a.m. on Monday.
When asked if he had any comment to make when the charge was read out, he replied: "There is no point in making a response to it."
Mr Graham, a former fisherman, was remanded in custody to Cork prison. He will appear at Tralee District Court tomorrow. A native of the Isle of Man, Mr Alan Graham Clucas (27), with an address at the caravan park, Cuan Ventry, Co Kerry, also appeared in court in connection with Ms McAuliffe's death.
He was charged last night with obstructing the course of justice by helping to place her body in the boot of a car on October 2nd. Her body was removed by car to Ventry in Co Kerry.
Mr Clucas was accused of helping to place the body in the boot of the car but when the charges were read to him at a court in Tralee last evening he made no response. He was remanded in custody to Cork prison and will appear tomorrow at Tralee District Court.
No application for bail was made.
