A subsequent postmortem by State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy confirmed that he had been stabbed.

Yesterday detectives arrested Mr Buck at his home at about 8am.

He was taken to Youghal District Court in Co Cork, where he was formally charged with Mr Roche's murder and the arson attack.

Det Sgt Michael Hennebry gave evidence of arresting and charging Mr Buck with both offences.

He told the court that Mr Buck made no reply to either charge when they were put to him after caution.
