The men were charged with assault at Dublin District Court. They were bailed to appear again on June 17th.

The incident occurred shortly before 1.30am on Friday at the junction of Goldsmith Street and the North Circular Road in Dublin. Two men were arrested a couple of hours later in a flat on the North Circular Road.

In what gardaí described as a “vicious attack”, a 35-year-old Romanian national suffered serious injuries to his arm after he was attacked with a machete or a sharp knife following a trip to a shop for supplies.

He was taken to the Mater hospital for emergency treatment and has since been transferred to Beaumont Hospital.

Meanwhile, a man appeared in court on Saturday morning charged in connection with a seizure of heroin and cocaine valued at almost €1 million.

Gardaí carried out a search of premises in Kilmurray, Enfield, Co Kildare, on Wednesday as part of an ongoing investigation into the sale and supply of drugs in the Meath area.

They arrested a 41-year-old man who appeared before Dublin District Court on Saturday.

About 4kg of heroin and 5kg of cocaine were seized in the search.

Subject to analysis, the drugs are estimated to have a street value of up to €950,000, according to gardaí.
