A MAN has appeared before Limerick District Court charged with the murder of Limerick businessman Roy Collins.
Mr Collins (35) died following a shooting incident at his business premises on the southside of Limerick city last week.
James Dillon (23), of no fixed abode, but originally from the southside of Limerick city, is charged with the murder of the father of two at CoinCastle Amusements, Roxboro shopping centre, Limerick, on April 9th.
There was a large Garda presence for yesterday’s court sitting.
Dressed in a navy and white striped hooded top and tracksuit pants, Mr Dillon remained silent throughout the brief court sitting.
Det Garda Paul Madden gave evidence of formally charging him at 1.14pm yesterday at Henry Street Garda station in Limerick.
The court heard that Mr Dillon made no reply to the charge.
Solicitor John Herbert was assigned to represent him and he was granted free legal aid.
Judge Tom O’Donnell said that as the charge was one of murder, the issue of bail was a matter for the High Court. Insp Tom O’Brien applied to have Mr Dillon remanded in custody until next week. Judge O’Donnell granted the application and remanded him in custody until April 22nd when he is due to appear before the same court again.
Meanwhile, a 19-year-old man also arrested last week following the murder of Mr Collins was released without charge yesterday after being in custody for seven days.
A 28-year-old woman arrested on Tuesday morning on suspicion of withholding information about the murder was also released without charge yesterday. Gardaí are preparing a file for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
