People working with dangerous machines should be given periodic training, an inquest jury in Sligo urged yesterday.
The jury foreman, Mr Michael Power, said at the inquest on a man who died after inhaling nitrogen gas at the Bruss factory, at Finisklin, Sligo, that the company, which was stated to have an "impressive record in accident protection", should consider introducing periodic training for machine operators.
Mr Gareth Rafter (20), from Kilmacowen, Co Sligo, inhaled the gas while setting up a shot blast machine on April 18th last.
The inquest, before the Sligo County Coroner, Dr Desmond Moran, returned a verdict of accidental death, as a result of asphyxia due to the inhalation of nitrogen gas.
