A 20-year-old man was arrested in Dublin yesterday in connection with the murder of a Clondalkin drug dealer in the city in May.

Anthony Creed (36) was shot dead in the bedroom of his home at Westbourne Drive, Clondalkin, in the early hours of May 27th last. Three of his four children, all aged under 11, were in the house at the time of the shooting. It is believed that one of them witnessed their father's murder.

Yesterday morning, gardaí arrested the 20-year-old and held him under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act at Clondalkin Garda station.

Creed was a drug dealer and a drug user and was a suspect in a number of burglaries and other crimes in the Clondalkin area. Gardaí believe his murder may have been something to do with his connection to the drugs trade or a personal feud with another criminal in the west Dublin area.

Under the terms of Section 30, the suspect can be held by gardaí for up to 72 hours without charge. On the night he died, Creed had been in his bedroom. At around 1.15am he heard a noise downstairs and came out to see what was happening. When he saw the gunman, he ran back into his bedroom. According to gardaí, his attacker then followed him, first firing a sawn-off shotgun through the door, which wounded Creed. The killer then entered the room and fired another shot.
