A 19-year-old man was charged with the fatal stabbing of a Leaving Certificate student in Cork last year and the serious assault of another student when he appeared at Midleton District Court yesterday.
Mr Mark Saleh, Beale's Hill, Lower Glanmire Road, Cork, was charged with unlawfully killing Peter Condon (17) and with assault causing serious harm to Anthony Casey (17) at Hazelwood Avenue in Glanmire on September 20th.
Det Garda Niall Crowley said Mr Saleh made no reply upon being charged.
Supt Dan Mullins said gardai had no objection to Mr Saleh being granted bail once it included an independent surety and a requirement that he sign on every Friday at Glanmire Garda station. Judge William Earley remanded the accused on his own bond of £500 and an independent surety of £250 to Cobh District Court on Wednesday and ordered him sign on every Friday morning at Glanmire Garda station.
Mr Casey was also charged with a number of offences arising out of the same incident, including possessing and producing a knife with intent to intimidate Mr Saleh, and with assaulting him, causing him harm. Judge Earley also remanded Mr Casey on his own bond of £500 and an independent surety of £250 to appear at Cobh District Court on Wednesday.
