A nineteen-year-old man was arrested today in connection with the dissident republican murder of two British soldiers in Northern Ireland.

The 19-year-old suspect was taken into custody in the Bellaghy area of Co Derry just before 7am.

Sappers Mark Quinsey (23), of Birmingham, and Patrick Azimkar (21), of London, were shot dead at the gates of Massereene Barracks in Antrim on Saturday March 7th while they collected pizzas from delivery men.

Two soldiers and two civilian pizza delivery men were seriously injured in the attack.

Colin Duffy appeared at Larne Magistrates¿ Court last Friday morning in Co Antrim charged with the murders of two soldiers shot dead by the Real IRA at Massereene army barracks.

He was remanded in custody and will next appear by video link at Antrim Magistrates¿ Court on April 21st.

Mr Duffy (41) from Lurgan, Co Armagh, was also charged with the attempted murder of five other people outside the Massereene Barracks in Antrim on March 7th and possession of a gun and ammunition.

Patrick Azimkar and Mark Quinsey were shot outside Massereene barracks, and several other men were injured in the attack.

The Real IRA, a splinter group of the IRA, claimed responsibility for killing the soldiers.

The 19-year-old has been taken to a police interrogation centre in Antrim for questioning. Two days after the soldier were killed, a policeman, Pc Stephen Carroll (48), was shot dead in Craigavon.

Three people have been charged in connection with that killing.
