LONDON - The British Prime Minister, Mr Major, forecast last night that voters will see better prospects opening up as polling day approaches.
But along with his prediction, Mr Major said he would have to "wait and see" how the economic recovery translated into votes in the general election campaign.
The Prime Minister was on a regional tour of Teesside, accompanied by his wife, Norma. Asked if he could still close the gap on the Labour Party in the opinion polls, Mr Major was clear he does not believe people are prepared to take a risk with Mr Tony Blair.
