One of the main city-centre heroin suppliers has been jailed for five years by Judge Elizabeth Dunne at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

Christopher Gaffney (25), of Whitestown Avenue, Blanchardstown used a bicycle to travel daily from his East Wall depot when supplying his regular staff of drugs sellers in the O'Connell Street area. He pleaded guilty to having heroin for supply on January 21st, 2000.

Gaffney also forfeited £23,640 cash found by garda∅ in his Caledon Road, East Wall premises. He told garda∅ he made £1,800 profit from one ounce of heroin and around £3,600 profit weekly. He said he would sometimes bring two batches daily to his regular sales people.

Members of the Pearse Street Station Drugs forced open the door of the Caledon Road house to prevent possible evidence being destroyed after seeing someone darting away from behind a curtain. Gaffney was found trying to dispose of heroin down a toilet.
