All 28,000 nurses in the public health services to receive the 2 per cent local bargaining increase due under Partnership 2000, backdated to July 1st, 1999. All nurses will retain the £1,250 lump sum in the August Labour Court recommendation rejected in the recent ballot. Increases to ward sisters and nurse managers will also be fully honoured.

2,500 new senior staff nurse positions to be created. These will attract a premium of £1,100 a year on top of the basic staff nurse scale of £22,000.

1,100 new clinical nurse manager grade I (junior ward sister) posts of which half are to be filled, initially, on the basis of seniority. Pay for the CNMI posts reaches £25,000 at the top of the scale, £3,000 above the staff nurse grade.

1,250 clinical nurse specialists to be appointed, on the same pay scale as CNMII (senior ward sisters). The top of the scale for CNMII posts will be £26,334, over £4,000 above the staff nurse grade.
