The biggest five parties in the 400-member National Assembly of South Africa are: 1, African National Congress, 266; 2, Democratic Party, 38; 3, Inkatha Freedom Party, 34; 4, New National Party, 28; 5, United Democratic Movement, 14.
The ANC was the majority party in seven of the nine provinces. It was the biggest single party in the Western Cape and the second biggest in KwaZulu-Natal.
