Adrian Maguire will miss the Tingle Creek meeting at Sandown after he hit another jockey with his whip when his frustration got the better of him as he drew another blank in the quest for his 1,000th winner in Britain at Wetherby today.
He struck fellow Irish jockey JP McNamara on the back after the John Wade Haulage Ltd Novices' Hurdle, in which fourth-placed Inching Closer was one of five losers he rode on the day.
Maguire, who has been on the 999-mark since Monday, appeared to be angry that McNamara on the winner Benbyas had hung right into his mount in the finishing straight and he lashed out after the line.
The stewards inquired into the incident and banned him for six days - December 7th and 8th and 10th to the 13th.
Stewards secretary Phil Tuck said: "It is the minimum recommended penalty. He was found guilty of improper riding under rule 153 iii) in that he struck JP McNamara on the back with his whip."
