Visits to Maghaberry Prison in Co Antrim were halted again today following the discovery of a bomb detonator and bullets.

The find is believed to be linked to a bid for segregation by loyalists and republicans.

More searches were being carried out today and search procedures were being urgently reviewed.

Loyalists and republicans are demanding to be kept apart, and security sources believe the detonator and bullets, one of which exploded in a toaster, were smuggled in to try and heighten the pressure on the prison authorities.
