Italy has agreed to extradite to Spain a prime suspect in the March 11 Madrid train bombings that killed 191 people, a judicial source said.
Mr Rabei Osman Sayed Ahmed, also known has "Mohamed the Egyptian", has been identified by Spain as one of the masterminds of the most devastating attack in modern Spanish history, which struck three days before a general election.
A source at Madrid's High Court, site of the investigation into the train bombings, said Mr Ahmed would be taken to the court to be officially registered tonight and from there to prison.
He is expected to face questioning early next week, the source said.
Italy 's top appeals court approved the extradition last week, but officials said at the time it could take weeks for him to be transferred to Spain.
Spanish investigators believe Mr Ahmed played a leading role in organising the attacks, in which 10 bombs hidden in sports bags exploded aboard four packed commuter trains at the morning rush hour.
His role was believed to rank alongside those of a Tunisian and a Syrian who were among seven prime suspects who blew themselves up in a suburban Madrid apartment when surrounded by police on April 3th.
