Commuters travelling to Dublin from the Northside face severe traffic disruption tomorrow due to construction work which will last two years.

Traffic restrictions will be introduced on the M1 to allow for work on the Dublin Port Tunnel.

The stretch of road from the Coolock Interchange to Whitehall will be reduced to one lane in each direction for about two years to allow for the construction of the northern end of the tunnel.

Motorists on the route are likely to face delays of up to 15 minutes and Dublin Corporation is encouraging people to use buses and taxis, as priority will be given to public transport on the route.

People travelling to or from Dublin Airport are also being advised to leave extra time for all journeys for the duration of the works.

There will be three northside QBC routes in operation on the Malahide Road, Finglas and Swords Roads.

A southbound Bus Lane will operate for the entire period through the construction works area from the Santry Bridge to Whitehall.

The slip road, southbound, from Shantalla Bridge will be open to public transport only.
