The Anti Water Charge Campaign received a setback yesterday when Judge Sean Delap granted Fingal County Council permission to discontinue the water supply to a house in north Co Dublin. It is the first order of its kind against opponents of the charges.

Noise from protesters outside the court led Judge Delap to adjourn two other cases until February 8th.

The three cases were adjourned last month to allow counsel for the Anti Water Charge Campaign time to examine how computer records determining heads of households were compiled by the local authority.

In yesterday's first case - against Ms Fiona Ryan, of Orlynn Park, Lusk - a Fingal County Council official told the court that the list of heads of households had been compiled during February and March last year. "I produced a database of households in the area from the voting register for the purpose of issuing water charge bills", he said.
