THE allocation of National Lottery resources is to be reviewed, by an inter departmental committee to be established by the Government.
The Minister for Finance, Mr Quinn announced yesterday that the departments represented will be Finance, Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht, Education, Social Welfare, Environment and Health.
The committee will have an independent chairperson, Mr Niall Greene, and two independent members, Dr Kathleen Lynch of UCD, and Mr Richard Burrows of Irish Distillers.
It will review proposals made by the Minister for Finance with the aim of ensuring maximum transparency in the procedures for processing National Lottery grant applications and the allocation of the lottery surplus.
The committee will recommend rich improvements as it considers necessary and is expected to complete its report within three months.
A compendium of National Lottery grant payments covering the period 1987 to 1994 has been finalised and is being printed. The compendium will be presented to the Dail and published within the next two weeks.
