Liverpool's Senegalese international striker El Hadji Diouf was tonight named African Footballer of the Year by the African Football Congress.
The 22-year-old held off the challenges of countryman Pape Bouba Diop, who plays for French club Lens, and Egypt striker Mido.
Goalkeeper Tony Silva made it an excellent night for Senegal by taking the best goalkeeper award while Mido won the Young Player of the Year award.
