WILL there be snow for Christmas? Well, it is still a bit early to be precise about the weather, but the forecasters at Met Eireann reckon that it is likely to be cold, quite breezy and frosty at night, with the possibility of rain.

There is a chance of sleet, which could mean snow in hilly areas, but it may not happen and if it does it will probably be on St Stephen's Day.

Whatever the weather, the nation's private and public transport companies will continue moving citizens into and around the State, and today and tomorrow are expected to be the busiest of the holiday period.

Aer Lingus has added more than 60 flights to its schedule to cope with the demand. It expects 83,000 passengers to fly in from London, while 53,000 will use other British airports.

British Midland says it has an additional 145 flights in operation to carry 51,000 people between London and Dublin and 50,000 between London and Belfast. BusEireann is also providing extra buses to cope with demand, and tomorrow, Christmas Eve, normal services will operate on all routes.

However, in Cork, Galway, Limerick and Waterford city services will stop earlier than normal, as will a number of suburban and other local services from Cork.

There will be no Bus Eireann services on Christmas Day, while on St Stephen's Day city services in Cork will operate as on Sundays, and a limited service will operate on some local routes. There will be no city services in Limerick, Galway and Waterford. On December 27th, services generally will operate according to the normal weekday timetable but with a number of changes.

Normal Sunday DART services will operate on Christmas Eve in Dublin, but the last trains will be the 20.55 from Howth to Bray and the 20.45 from Bray to Howth. There will be no train services on Iarnrod Eireann or Northern Ireland Railways on Christmas Day or St Stephen's Day.

In Dublin, the normal bus services will operate today, and the Nitelink will also be in operation. However, tomorrow there will be no Nitelink service, and the last buses will leave the city at 9 p.m..

There will be no Dublin Bus services on Christmas Day, but on St Stephen's Day a Sunday service will operate, as will the Nitelink.
