Former rugby league star Jason Robinson led a remarkable second-half try blitz as the Lions crushed the President's XV at Dairy Farmers Stadium today.

England wing Robinson scorched over for a 17-minute hat-trick, his first international union touchdowns since permanently switching codes last October, and then added two more during the closing minutes.

And Robinson's five-try exploits highlighted a devastating second-half display when the Lions scored 73 unanswered points after edging an uninspiring first period 10-6.

The Lions posted 13 tries in total, centre Rob Henderson (three), flanker Colin Charvis (two), prop David Young, replacement Malcolm O'Kelly and a penalty try giving them another comprehensive success.

Fly-half Neil Jenkins missed his first two conversion attempts, then booted five, while full-back Matt Perry made four successful kicks.

The Lions made 14 changes following a record 116-10 romp against Western Australia in Perth last Friday, retaining only England centre Will Greenwood, and lacked fluency during a disappointing first-half effort where Welsh forwards Young and Charvis scored the only Lions tries of the half.

Robinson's inexperience was also exposed, conceding penalties in the tackle area, and there was another early tour injury blow when hooker Robin McBryde limped off after just seven minutes.

Fly-half Neil Jenkins, the world's highest Test points scorer, failed with a second successive conversion attempt while his opposite number Shane Drahm then found the target, booting a 19th-minute penalty.

Another Drahm penalty seven minutes later further put pressure onthe Lions lead and it took a brilliant tackle by Greenwood to prevent a President's try after Jason Robinson turned over possession.

The second half was a completely different story though, Charvis setting the tone when he powered over just 28 seconds after the restart.

The show then belonged to Robinson whose blistering pace left the President's defence floundering.

In two games the Lions have scored 199 points and 31 tries, flashing warning signals to the Wallabies ahead of the three-Test series which begins in Brisbane on June 30. PA
