THREE MEN appeared before a special sitting of Limerick District Court yesterday charged in connection with an incident during which a member of the Garda Emergency Response Unit was injured.

Brothers Kieran Ryan (26) and Eddie Ryan (27), Hogan Avenue, Kileely, Limerick, and John Collins (18), Monabraher Road, Ballynanty, Limerick, appeared before Judge Tom O’Donnell.

All three were arrested on Wednesday afternoon in an operation involving members of the Emergency Response Unit and the Regional Response Unit.

The men are each charged with possession of a 9mm Browning semi-automatic pistol and 15 rounds of ammunition in suspicious circumstances at Carrigmartin, Ballyneety, Co Limerick, on May 26th contrary to section 27a of the Firearms Act 1964.

None of the men applied for bail at yesterday’s court sitting.

Det Garda David Nolan gave evidence of arresting and formally charging Kieran Ryan at Bruff Garda station at lunchtime yesterday. The court heard the 27- year-old made no reply to the charge.

Det Garda Mark Deasy told the court he arrested Edward Ryan at Roxboro Garda station and that he also made no reply after he was formally charge.

The third accused John Collins was granted free legal aid. He was formally charged at Mayorstone Garda station and also made no reply to the charge, according to Det Garda Monica Reilly.

All three men who were remanded in custody until June 3rd.
