A Limerick man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a father of four in the city almost 18 months ago.
Derek McNamara (37), St Ita's Street, St Mary's Park, is charged with the murder of Martin O'Donoghue (35) outside a pub in Limerick on August 9th, 2004.
Mr O'Donoghue was stabbed in a row outside a pub on Broad Street.
Det Garda Jim Ruddle gave evidence at Limerick District Court yesterday of arresting Mr McNamara at 8pm on Thursday night at Abbey Bridge in Limerick.
Det Garda Ruddle told the court that Mr McNamara said: "I didn't do it, you all know that," in response to the charge.
Brian McInerney, defending, applied for free legal aid on behalf of his client.
Judge Tom O'Donnell said the issue of bail would be a matter for the High Court and remanded Mr McNamara in custody until November 9th when he is due to appear again before Limerick District Court.
Originally from St Mary's Park, Mr O'Donoghue was a cousin of murdered nightclub security man Brian Fitzgerald, who was shot dead outside his home in 2002.
